What: Batesville Rotary Yard Sale

When: June 6, 2015

Where: Independence County Fairgrounds

Batesville rotary will hold a HUGE OPEN yard sale to raise money for BEST FOOT FORWARD. Tables are available for rent inside the air conditioned commercial building as well as outside the building. Rent for inside is $25 and outside $20. We expect lots of shoppers so donate to a cause and make some money by bringing items to sell. Best Foot Forward is a service project the Rotary club in cooperation with United Way and the Wood Family of Dealerships to provide students with athletic footwear for school. Last year Rotary was able to provide approximately 300 pairs of shoes for students. This year we hope to triple the number. All money for table rentals at the yard sale will be used for shoes. Rev. Larry Neil from Odessa, MO, will be the evangelist. While in Guion, Larry Neil will be leading the Calvary Baptist Church of Odessa, Mo. In a mission trip. The purpose of the trip is to help the Guion Baptist Church with some needed painting and repairs to the church

When: The First Sunday of Each month from 2-4

Where: Court Square in Mt. View

The Harmony will be the group for June, performances are free and open to the public. Guest are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and instruments. Each week a different group performs under the shade of the big oak tree on the east side of the courthouse. Performers play a one hour set from 2-3 and then the public is invited to join the group for a classic pickin’ session from 3-4.

What: Hog Bash

Where: Independence Hall on the campus of UACCB Batesville

We are honored to have both Razorback Basketball Head Coaches Mike Anderson and Jimmy Dykes at this year event. Hog Bash will be catered by Fred’s Fish House. Doors open at 5:30 and the event begins at 6 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students (5-18) and age 5 and under are free with a paid adult. Tickets may be purchased at First Community Bank, Scott Wood Chrysler, Stanley Wood Chevrolet, WRD Entertainment and the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce. If there are remaining tickets, they will be sold at the door the night of the event. All proceeds are used for scholarships given by the Razorback Foundation and Independence County Chapter of the Arkansas alumni Association.

UACCB will offer a free half-day camp for students interested in the growing field of cyber security. Students entering grades 8 and 9 in the fall of 2015 are eligible to attend. The camp includes activities focused on cyber security topics: the interconnections of security, technology and computers; basic concepts of Alice computer programming; PC hardware repair; password recovery; and war walking activities. This year’s event will include a 20’s turn back the clock theme and prizes will be awarded to the best dressed 20’s costumes. In addition to a silent auction, food tasting from local restaurants, a photo booth, and raffle prizes, there will be live music by Danny Dozier, Sarah Roark, and John Parks. Honorary guests of the evening include Nelson and Sandy Barnett and Charles and Betty Barnett. Tickets for the event are available at Carlee’s Hallmark, Citizens Bank, First Community Bank, and the BAAC Gallery on Main. Tickets are $40/person in advance and $45 at the door. Our annual youth fishing derby starts at 7am Registration will last until 10, with fishing until 11. There will be a short break while we add up the results, but stick around. At noon we will hand out prize packages for fishing, and then we will start drawing names for door prizes. Everyone should get a prize.

Where: Lake Charles State Park 3705 Hwy 25 Powhatan

Challenge your kids this summer with fun fit day camp. Campers play games and do activities that help improve their physical fitness while having fun. Some activities include scavenger hunt hiking, kayaking, geocaching, races, swimming, and more! Parents must supply snacks and lunches for the kids. Price is $10 per child per day, or $30 for the whole camp.

What: Basic Outdoor Survival

When: September 26, 2015 9-12:30

Where: UACCB Nursing Allied Health Building, Room 902

 Dan Nash, a professional mountain guide, will teach phase one of survival training. Training includes instruction on survival kits, the psychology of survival, shelter, water, fire and preparation for rescue. Classroom and field exercises include fire starting, water filtration and shelter construction. Bring a water bottle or container, two bandanas and a steel or magnesium fire striker. Field exercises to be held outdoors, rain or shine. Up to two minors (under 18) may attend the class for $5 each but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 18 years of age with a fee of $32. When: September 26, 2015 1-5

Where: UACCB Nursing Allied Health Building, room 902

Dan Nash, a professional mountain guide, will teach phase two of survival training. Training and field exercises include an overview of the Basic Survival Class followed by instruction in wilderness first-aid, orienteering, collecting wild edibles, the use of snares, dead falls, fish traps and surviving harsh weather environments. Adults (18 and up) need to bring a pocket knife and three feet of string. Field exercises to be held outdoors, rain or shine. Up to two minors (under 18) may attend the class for $5 each but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 18 years of age with a fee of $32.
